Easter & Summer School

Extra tuition for 5 - 10 year olds

Come and join us at Easter and in the Summer Holidays. We are now able to offer a relaxing environment for school-age children without having the day to day pressure and time constraints of school.

The focus is on having fun whilst learning. Below are five examples of how we will be covering Maths, Geography, Science, English and Art.

Science/Engineering

Building a geodesic dome (like at the Eden Project in Cornwall).

Skills needed or learnt:

  • Team work
  • Extending language skills
  • Looking at photographic examples and talking about the construction
  • Maths - measuring, making sure the triangle sides are the correct length and the angles are correct
  • Construction - making each piece strong enough. Using the model afterwards for games and activities
  • Takings photos and video for their diaries
  • Writing notes about the activity

Science

Making a robot out of a toothbrush.

This fun experiment using a watch battery will make a fast moving creature that is able to scoot around the floor!

Skills needed or learnt:

  • Knowledge of how a battery works
  • Manipulative skills
  • Putting together components
  • Setting up a race track to race the creatures
  • Taking photos or video for the children's diaries
  • Making notes of the activity
  • Working as a team
  • Extending their language

Geography

Geocaching - looking for treasure using a compass and written clues.

Skills needed or learnt:

  • Team work
  • Language development
  • The use of a compass
  • Reading clues and working out answers

This will take place on our 15 acre site.

Art

Mixture of painting, model making, drawing and printing.

Skills needed or learnt:

  • Knowledge of mixing paint colours
  • Working with different textures/mediums
  • Working together as a group or singularly

Art is often overlooked in school and given a small time slot. We believe that this subject needs more time so that the children can experiment and use their imaginations - this will also develop concentration.

Sewing

Either by hand or with a machine.

Skills needed or learnt:

  • Using tools such as a sewing machine and needles
  • Learning about different materials and textures
  • Maths - measuring and making patterns
  • Following instructions
  • Concentration
  • Embellishing garments/objects made

All of these activities will be supervised by our own highly-trained staff. We will have four staff (minimum) to 20 children.
